Money and Primer

Our film is going to be extremely low budget, and is somewhat misplaced among the big blockbusters that take millions to compile a futuristic setting, hire a star cast, and more large aspects that would be impossible with our budget, which is close to $0.

Related image     I found some interesting advice for low budget movies while researching, though, and I think some aspects would be beneficial to my film. One interesting tip is that "Some 'niche' audiences are large enough to make for a very profitable market, if you can reach them". This is something I will take into consideration when planning, because niche audiences can in some cases make the movie a profit, even if it is very low budget. However I'm probably going to focus on the second piece of advice: "If you're aiming for a more general audience, quality matters. A lot. " I feel like this is how a lot of low budget Sci-Fi films become successful, and a shining example of this is Primer.

Primer is a movie my film teacher showed me and it has an amazing story. The movie is entirely made by two guys, just like my film will be made by only two people. It had a shockingly low budget, only $7,000, and it is pretty much unheard of for a movie that low budget to make a profit. However, the movie was great quality, with a great story, and made over $400,000, a huge profit. It's about two guys who end up discovering time travel, but the story is very dark and realistic, a tone I also want to make my film. The quality is amazing, and got very high reviews from its film festival run, and then from the theatrical release. This is the kind of success story I want my film to follow and I'm taking a lot of notes about how they pulled it off.
